On October 5 I will celebrate my 55th year of teaching about wine.
I was a 20-year-old college student and the restaurant that I was working at received the highest rating (4 stars) from The New York Times!
I went from waiter to bartender to sommelier. The local college asked me and the chef/owner to teach a class on cheese and wine… very 70s! Back in those days people were mostly interested in French wines and that is where my love of wine began (and still is today).
This is a class of tasting four great French wines!
We will start with Champagne. I am looking forward to this since we have never discussed it in a class before.
The first great wine I ever tasted was a Grand Cru Burgundy and suddenly my life changed. I went directly from Budweiser to Burgundy!
Bordeaux is still my favorite wine region in the world with great whites, both dry and sweet and light, medium and full-bodied reds.
Red wines from the Rhône Valley were not as popular in the 70s but Chateauneuf-du-Pape was on one of my early wine lists.
List of the four wines:
Veuve Clicquot Brut NV
Domaine Nudant Vosne Romanee 2022
Chateau Langoa Barton St. Julien 2015
Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 2022
The cost of this class is $100 per household (no refunds on class fee); the wine cost is $299.99 if purchased through Grapes the Wine Company.
Zoom link (look out for an email from "Zoom") and order of wines/food pairing suggestions will be emailed as the class date nears. Class is 7:00 - 8:30 pm EST
Join Kevin, Robin Kelley O’Connor and Alison Van de Berghe for this exciting class!
