My publisher in the early 80’s asked me to write a chapter on the hardest wine region on Earth to understand (and make it easy to understand!) and I chose Burgundy with more than 1,000 names and 110 appellations to know!
The heart of Burgundy is called the Côte d’Or. It is divided into two smaller regions, the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.
One easy part of Côte d’Or Red wines is that the only grape allowed is Pinot Noir.
We will explore two wines from the Côte de Beaune:
Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet Boudriotte 2023
Domaine Maillard Beaune Greves 2023
And, two wines from the Cote de Nuits:
Gerard Seguin Gevrey Chambertin Craipillot 2023
Alain Michelot Nuits St. Georges Champs Perdrix 2022
All of these wines are from Premier Cru vineyards.
